Ruth Moritz, Salina, will be the Artist-in-Residence, Sunday, July 9 through Saturday, July 22 at the Red Barn Studio Museum, 212 S. Main, Lindsborg. Of her residency she says, “I am/will be working on a group of related art works exploring pain-physical, emotional, psychological pain…I am attempting to capture its fugitive state in a sequence of large, representational assemblages. The overall title of the collection will be ‘54 Units of Harm.’ I envision ten to twelve pieces in this series. Only two pieces are complete…Process is very important to me in any form, so I will value having interaction with visitors who come to the studio while I am working.” She, also, plans to have one piece in the series which requires viewer input. She will erect a temporary “confessional” type structures wherein visitors can enter, write a brief response, and seal the answer in a vial which will become part of an assemblage called “Votive” or vow. Ruth Moritz is an installation and graphic artist, writer and educator. Ruth has conducted art and writing workshops for numerous art agencies and educational institutions throughout the state. She has a BA in Fine Arts from K-State and an MFA in Creative Writing from WSU. She is currently a full-time instructor of English at Kansas Wesleyan University. The Red Barn Studio will host a reception for Moritz during 2nd Friday Makers Street Artwalk, Friday July 14.
