Laura Baker of Roeland Park, KS, also known as the Pie Baker Lady, will be returning as artist-in-residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum from July 3rd to 13th.
Laura’s medium of choice spans watercolor and acrylic on canvas to textiles and watercolor pencils. During her residency, she’ll be working on her second cookbook, “Pie as Art, Volume II.” Inspired by antique plates and her love for baking, she’ll be illustrating her favorite pie plates on a large scale, using watercolor pencils. You can expect recipes like Mandarin Orange Cheesecake, Sour Cream Lemon Pie, and Seafood Quiche to grace the pages of her latest cookbook.
For Laura, the residency at the Red Barn is more than just a creative retreat—it’s critical for her artistic progress. Taking a break from her busy job at a non-profit arts organization in Kansas City, she feeds her soul in Lindsborg, and channels Lester Raymer’s spirit by exploring various mediums and techniques.
During your visit, you will enjoy meeting Laura, watching her work, and discussing your favorite pie. You may also find a sample of the pie when you visit the studio. There is nothing like eating pie and looking at pie paintings—it’s a totally immersive experience!!
