Kayann Ausherman – June 24-30, 2024

From June 24th to June 30th, the Red Barn Studio Museum welcomes back mixed media artist Kayann Ausherman of Haven, KS as artist-in-residence, with her eclectic mix of acrylic paint, paper, pastels, inks, and more.

During her week-long residency, Kayann plans to do exploratory work in her ‘A Closer Look’ series, exploring texture, pattern, and shape in new and exciting ways. Visitors can expect to witness her approach firsthand as she experiments with collage, block prints, stenciling, and acrylic paint. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for exploring “zoomed-in” views, Kayann brings a fresh perspective to familiar processes and media.

Kayann’s love for art was first influenced by her grandmother, who was also an artist. Kayann takes being a self-taught artist seriously and continues to seek inspiration from fellow artists and the world around her.

Join Kayann for a workshop Foliage & Florals Saturday, June 29th, from 10am – 4pm. Open to ages 12 and above, this hands-on workshop will guide participants in creating cropped views of foliage and florals. By layering various media and techniques, attendees will learn to bring lush growth to life while contrasting it with deep, dark negative spaces. The results are a striking and intriguing view of the plant life around us.
