The Barbaras, O’Leary and Cordill – Artists in Residence
September 28, 2022 @ 10:00 am - October 16, 2022 @ 5:00 pm
Barbara Cordill of Overland Park, and Barbara O’Leary of Shawnee, KS will be the Artists in Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, Saturday, Oct 1st through Sunday, Oct 16. Barbara O’Leary will be teaching two plein air classes, “Plein Air I, Sat, Oct 08, 1PM to 4PM,” and Plein Air 2, Sat, Oct 15, 1PM to 4PM.” Both classes are for students ages 14 and up; there is a minimum of 3 participants, maximum 8, and the $50 cost for Raymer Society members, $60 for nonmembers, includes both classes. Please bring your own sketch books and supplies, paints, or pencils. Barbara O’Leary says that during her residency she will be “working on a couple of projects: disappearing farms and barns, including my family’s farms, and currently expanding parks and green spaces which account for all of my new plein air work.” She has been active, teaching “Painter’s Palette” and “Plein Air” classes and participated in shows both as artist in one and judge in another. Their 50+ group also presented a show, “Here Where We Live.”
Barbara Cordill says of her art, “Composing art with paper, canvas or fiber provides satisfaction and tranquility in my daily life. Whether creating for myself or others, I find aspirations are the same, pleasure derived from the visual impression and portraying that with the expectation of inspiring the viewer. I work in pencil, pen and ink, oil, watercolor, and fiber. The Red Barn Studio residency will provide me the opportunity to further concentrate on design and color and applying that in my paintings. Aspiring to become more accomplished in this, I feel the solitude of the residency, without the distractions of everyday life will help me achieve this.”
