Shannon Trevethan, Russell, KS, will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, Tuesday, August 4 through Friday, Aug 14. “During my residence, I would like to create work from objects brought to the studio by people in Lindsborg. I’ve made several pieces from found objects, most have a circus theme (I like to think that Raymer would have appreciated that,) But, I’d like to take it a step farther and include the public by inviting them to bring me things they would have otherwise discarded. I’ll bring my tools, paint, adhesives, and other constructing materials to transform the objects into something new and whimsical. Suggested items are old yard decorations, wooden boxes, broken furniture, old toys, costume jewelry, fabric, old postcards, etc. The result will be an exhibit of curiosity and imagination.”  For almost her entire life Shannon has said she was going to go join the circus. Although she has had a myriad of jobs through the years, none of them have been in a circus. These days she is settled into her career as an artist and art center director at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell. With the help and encouragement from her wonderful, extraordinary friends she is creating her own circus of found objects and curiosities.
