Mri-Pilar will be the Artist-in-Residence, Tuesday June 7^th through Thursday, June 30^th.  Pilar, a Kansas Grassroots/Outsider artist, is exploring the edges of contemporary Folk Art and Outsider Art.  How do these art forms overlap?  How do they differ? The self-taught artist is one defining commonality of the two art forms.  One point-of-view is that Folk Art captures the “what is” of a culture while Outsider Art is driven by an inner obsession.  “Our world is exploding with change on all fronts.  I can imagine these two art forms colliding…Scenes of spaceships landing in a quaint Folk Art village…Robots in a corn field…Hybrids at High Tea.  Whatever comes of my residency is sure to include my 20-year obsession with Robots and unusual lifeforms,” states Pilar.
